Russellville FOP Shop With A Cop Provides 24 Kids With A Special Christmas.
By Michelle Jostmeyer for The River Valley Leader
The Russellville Police Department spent Sunday morning, December 15, giving back to the Russellville community by taking children Christmas shopping in the annual “Shop with a Cop” program. Fifteen officers and twenty four children met at the Russellville Walmart Sunday morning to participate in this year’s Christmas shopping event. Each child was given a designated amount of money to spend while Christmas shopping with a cop.
Approximately $3,600 was spent on purchasing Christmas gifts with the children this year.
The event could not be possible without the assistance from several Russellville businesses, organizations and individuals who continue to support the Russellville Police Department and the Fraternal Order of Police “Shop with a Cop” program year after year. It is because of their assistance by making donations to the program, that an underprivileged child can have the opportunity to enjoy shopping during the Christmas season.
The Russellville Police Department would like to thank the Fraternal Order of Police, Bridgestone America’s Trust Fund, Asurion, Walmart, the Ladies Club, as well as several other supporters in the community who make this all possible.
The FOP Kids and Cops program is designed to build relationships between your Local Lodge and the community. Officers taking underprivileged kids shopping for Christmas presents demonstrates to the children that the police in their area are friends and are always there to help by making a lasting impression. Through community donations officers are able to take a child shopping and allowing a child to receive a Christmas present, when otherwise they wouldn’t have received one.
